Washington, D.C. is home to 300 years of critical achievement by African-American men and women. In one full day, we will walk and drive you through the highlights that are most important to you.

Start with a basic itinerary :

- home of Black History Month creator Woodson Carter
      
- Frederick Douglass' church and home
      
- African-American Civil War Memorial and Museum
     
-  Black Broadway.
You decide what else you'd like to experience.

Into
Arts? See where Howard University professor and world traveler Lois Mailou Jones lived, marvel at period and recent garments in the Black Fashion Museum, or view the works of Henry O.Tanner, Edmonia Lewis, Romare Bearden, Archibald Motley and others at Howard University Gallery of Art.

A literary buff?  Add on a leisurely drive past the homes of Langston Hughes, Alain Locke and literary couple Alice Moore and Paul Laurence Dunbar.












Women of vision spirited in great change. Tour the first headquarters of the National Council of Negro Women, home of educator and civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune, and an exceptional exhibition on black women's history. You'll also find inspiration in stories of Anna Julia Cooper, educator and human rights leader who earned her Ph.D at the Sorbonne at the age of 66.

Power couples  were movers and shakers of the city. View the homes and hear the achievements of Mary Church and Robert H. Terrell, poet Georgia and lawyer Henry Lincoln Johnson, and clubwoman Josephine and Senator Blanche Bruce.

Celebrity Lunch And no trip here would be complete without a chow-down at the famous Ben's Chili Bowl Restaurant - a favorite of Bill Cosby, Denzel Washington and recently appreciated by President Obama. Our one-day itinerary starts at $130 per person and we welcome individuals, couples, families and groups.

A deposit of half your total fee is required at the time of reservation to confirm your booking. Once date and tour details have been agreed upon, you will receive a Paypal invoice to complete your payment.  Reserve here.

Company Cancellation Policy:
30 days or more prior to departure - full refund, minus 25%.
29 days or less prior to departure - no refund.

Walking The Spirit Tours was created by Ontario-based Julia Browne. Since 1994 we have shared our passion for Black History with hundreds of groups and individuals.
